The tragedy of Karbala or the Battle of Karbala took place on 10 Muharram 61 AH (corresponding to 9 or 10 October 680 AD) at Karbala in present-day Iraq. Where, according to popular history, the army sent by the Umayyad Caliph Yazid I al-Lain martyred Muhammad's grandson Hussain Ibn Ali and his family. Hussain Ibn Ali was accompanied by 72 companions, some slaves, 22 young men of Ahl al-Bayt and some women and children of the Prophet's family.

 

Islamic system of government was based on Sovietism. The eras of the Holy Prophet and the Caliphs were the best examples of this. Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan had made an agreement with Hazrat Hasan bin Ali that he would not nominate anyone as Caliph, but Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan had violated this principle by nominating Yazid as his successor, because in the Islamic way of life, personal government is not allowed. There is no justification for staying. Until now, there were great companions and nobles in the land of Hijaz who had directly seen the era of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). Therefore, it was not possible for them to accept the wrong tradition of Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan. Imam Hussain, peace be upon him, refused to accept the allegiance of Yazid for the same principles.

 

Yazid's personal character was devoid of all the attributes prescribed by Islamic Shari'a for an emir or caliph. Traveling and hunting and drinking and drinking were his favorite pastimes, so how could it be possible for the Imam of the High Maqam to accept a transgressor as a ruler even in a personal capacity.
