Mewat is the border of the northwestern states of Haryana and Rajasthan in India. The geographical boundaries of Mewat are not fully known, but it includes Hathain tehsil and Noh district in Haryana and Alwar district in Rajasthan and Aravali mountain range and Bharatpur, Rajasthan and Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh.

The region of Mewat is also believed to be the territory of Matsya, a kingdom of the 5th century. The dialect of Mewati language actually came into being from the combination of Haryanvi language and Rajasthani language in Hindi language. Haryanvi and Rajasthani languages belong to the Hindi language family and Mewati is a hybrid form of these languages. Mewati is not a separate language but a dialect. Mewata is generally spoken in the villages of Mewat region. Mewati Gharana, a form of Indian classical music found in Mewat, is loved by the people here.

In 2016, the total number of Mewatis was 400,000. These people claim to be the descendants of Rama, Arjuna and Krishna. According to this calculation, Mewati is a Hindu nation which later became Muslim. In Mewat, a mixed culture of Hindu and Muslim can be seen, but with the passage of time, these people are making themselves better Muslims.

Khanzada Rajput ruled the state of Mewat from 1372 to 1527 and at that time Mewat was an independent state. The king here was called Wali Mewat. In 1372, Sultan Feroz Shah Tughluq entrusted the government of Mewat region to Raja Nahir Khan of Kotla Fort. He established a good political regime in Mewat and adopted the title of Vali Mewat for himself. Later his descendants ruled as an independent state till 1527.
