Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (Born: 10 May 1829 - Died: 11 August 1905) was an Indian Deobandi scholar, preacher, muhaqiq, commentator and hadith, jurist, writer and Shaykh Tariqat. He was the Mujahideen of the Liberation War, the Khalifa of Imdadullah Muhajir Makki and the Patron of Darul Uloom Deoband. A collection of your fatwas is published under the name of Fatawa Rashidiyyah.

 

Rashid Ahmad Gangohi was born on Saturday 6/Zhi Qadah 1242 AH 1829 in Gangohi, District Saharanpur, UP, his father Mehdayat Ahmad was a Jaid religious scholar of his time, he was authorized by Ghulam Ali.After studying the Holy Qur'an at home, he went to his uncle in Karnal and read Persian books from him, then he studied grammar and syntax from Muhammad Bakhsh Rampuri. Arriving in Delhi in 1261 A.H., he prostrated himself before the Mamluk Ali Nanotwi , where he established a relationship with Muhammad Qasim Nanotwi, which continued throughout his life. In Delhi, he read some of the books of the rationalities from Mufti Sadr al-Din Azrdah, and in the end, he studied Hadith by staying in the service of Shah Abdul Ghani Mujadadi.

 

In 1857, he came out of the Quddusi monastery and joined the ranks against the British and showed great bravery by participating in the jihad with his mentor Haji Imdadullah Mahajir Makki and other comrades. When Hafiz Zamin was martyred in the battlefield, he picked up his body and took it to the nearby mosque and sat next to it and started reciting the Holy Quran. After the Battle of Shamli, an arrest warrant was issued and he was arrested in Saharanpur. He was sent to Jail, then transferred to Muzaffarnagar, spent six months in Jail, there many prisoners became believers and started praying with Jamaat in Jail.
