The grandson of our beloved Prophet, Hazrat Hasan, the eldest son of Hazrat Ali and Sayyida Fatimah, was born on 15 Ramadan 3 AH (1st April 625 AD) in Madinah.

Hazrat Ali says, when Hasan was born, I named him Harb. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to our house (to see his grandson) and said, "Show me your son, what name you have given him?" We said, Harb. You said, no! His name should be Hasan.

 

On the seventh day of his birth, he performed the aqeeqah of Hasan, offered the sacrifice of two moons, shaved his head and gave alms of silver equal to the weight of his hair. Umm al-Fazl, the wife of Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, nursed Hasan along with her son Qasim, so Qasim became Hasan's uncle as well as his foster brother. Hasan's surname was Abu Muhammad, this was also suggested by the Holy Prophet, although he did not have any children with this name. Mujtaba and Sabat are his nicknames. Hasan had a great resemblance to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in his head and upper body.

 

The first caliph, Abu Bakr, came out after offering the Asr prayer and saw that Hasan was playing with the children. Smiled.
