In the 13th century Hijri, India had reached the extremes of political, religious and moral decline. Shiraz of the Mughal Empire was disintegrated. The whole of India was dominated by the East India Company or its allies and many of the country was in the possession of nobles and chieftains who were defeated one after another and handed over their territories to the British. Rua Shah Alam, the ruler of the Mughal Empire, was only a king in name.

 

The entire region from the Deccan to Delhi was at the mercy of the Marathas. The Sikhs ruled from the Punjab to the borders of Afghanistan, from whose surrender even the northern and central parts of India were not safe. Delhi and its surrounding areas were the target of Marathas and Sikhs. The political prestige of the Muslims had fallen and they had no leader and Shiraz of India.

 

As they were weak and pure, twenty temptations had raised their heads and would have trampled them down. The moral condition of the Muslims in the country had fallen so much that many immoral things had entered the culture. And he was openly proud of it. Alcoholism was not uncommon. Arbab Nishat visited far and wide. From the nobles and the middle class to the poor, they were victims of this society. The moral degradation and national indifference can be gauged from the fact that at the beginning of the thirteenth century, when the British had not fully established themselves, many Muslim women were at the homes of European merchants and officials.
