Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanotwi, Hazrat Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi, Hazrat Haji Abid Hussain and their companions were the children of the Hurriyat caravan which participated in the armed struggle to stop the growing steps of British colonialism in the subcontinent and two they were defeated on the fronts. In May 1831, this caravan suffered defeat at the hands of Sher Singh, son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab, on the hills of Balakot, and martyred in Balakot along with his companions, recalling the memory of Amirul Momineen Syed Ahmad Shaheed and Imam Mujahideen Hazrat Shah Ismail Shaheed. He belonged to the Jamaat of Delhi which was active in keeping alive the faith and belief, civilization and culture and honor of the Muslims of this region from the time of Imam Waliullah Dehlvi and now the matter is in the hands of the third and fourth generation.

 

The academic and political leadership of the Wali Allahi Jamaat in Delhi was in the hands of Hazrat Shah Muhammad Ishaq Dehlvi, grandson of Hazrat Shah Abdul Aziz Muhaddith Dehlvi, while the leadership of the Balakot battle was Hazrat Syed Ahmad Shaheed and Hazrat Shah Waliullah, the disciples of Hazrat Shah Abdul Aziz Muhaddith Dehlvi. Dehlvi's grandson Hazrat Shah Ismail was martyred. His ambitions were grand, the program broad and the goals lofty. They wanted to control the state of Jammu and Kashmir by making Muzaffarabad their base camp and organize the freedom struggle in the whole of South Asia by making the state of Jammu and Kashmir the center. He had to compete with Ranjit Singh, the Sikh ruler of Punjab, to gain control of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, and he lost his life in the same stage of the competition.
